Out of the Box and Initial Setup
The Blackstone Gas Griddle is extremely well packed. Its shipping weight is a little over 126 pounds. While we’re categorizing this as a portable grill, it’s only because of how well it can collapse on itself for ease of transport. It’s still heavy! Youtube user tonybuddy123 has a great unboxing and setup video that takes you step-by-step through the process, along with commentary.
Youtube user Todd Toven also has some great tips for seasoning your griddle, just as you’d season a cast iron skillet.
The Blackstone Gas Griddle heats evenly, its four burners and quality cook top are to thank for that. It minimizes its overall footprint considering the size of the cook top – there’s no wasted real estate. The ignition is a little flimsy, out of the box. The grease trough can be inadequate for some uses or users, depending on your style . In addition, the grease sometimes runs down the legs of the grill instead of sliding into the drip hole. These issues can be addressed by the user in imaginative ways, however. The two side panels make for great work spaces, but there’s a very good accessory (not included) that wraps around three sides of the grill for holding an amazing amount of ingredients, plates, and other necessities. But, the bottom line in regards to performance is that this griddle works, and it works well. You’ll love the outcome of your grilling.
Do be aware that there’s no wind guard around it, nor is there a cover. So take this into consideration if there’s any situation where this may affect you. In addition, if a level cooking top is a priority, be prepared to bring things to prop up legs that are on uneven ground, it’s not adjustable to the terrain. In addition, be sure to season it before use.
